• Kaja McMaster, Ph.D.

    Dr. McMaster is a licensed clinical psychologist at Orchard Mental Health.  She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology at Stanford University and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. Her predoctoral internship was completed at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

    Dr. McMaster specialized for over ten years in bipolar disorder research and the treatment of bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia with a focus on racial disparities and provider racial biases. She has authored and co-authored seven journal articles and two book chapters on these topics, presented research findings at nearly a dozen different international and national conferences, and was featured in Medical News Today.

    Dr. McMaster has extensive training and experience using evidence-based treatments.  The primary evidence-based treatment she provides to clients in therapy is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.  In Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Dr. McMaster and her clients work collaboratively to identify goals that reflect her clients’ best hopes and develop, as the name suggests, satisfying solutions for achieving those goals.

    Dr. McMaster is licensed in Maryland and sees teenagers and adults in individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy.
